Arts and Culture

Committee Vision:

To draw upon local and outside resources to provide residents of the Village and surrounding communities with high-quality programming in the visual and performing arts; to develop artist-and artisan-in-residence programs; to collaborate with schools, libraries, churches, and senior groups to provide a variety of arts programs.

Arts & Culture

Due to COVID-19, most of the Arts & Culture opportunities planned for 2020 had to be canceled. The future of our Arts & Culture programs and activities will be dependent on the best and latest public health information regarding COVID-19.

The goal of Dolgeville Forward’s Arts & Culture committee is to eventually have an event every two months throughout the year.

The Violet Festival - June

This iconic Village of Dolgeville Festival is made possible by the incredible work of the Village of Dolgeville’s Violet Festival Committee. It was, unfortunately, canceled for the first time in its history in 2020. The Festival, which takes place on the second weekend of June annually, is an enormous undertaking and requires untold hours of planning and fundraising. Dolgeville Forward members will assist in the Festival and will promote fundraising activities and events so that the Festival will continue to thrive.

Keep up to date on Violet Festival plans - and consider joining their committee - at Dolgeville Violet Festival | Facebook.

Blueberries, Blues, and BBQ Festival - August

The first Blueberries, Blues, and BBQ Festival was held in 2019 and, for its debut, proved to be a fun and delicious Saturday! The Festival returns this year on August 7, 2021. The day includes a Dolgeville Fire Department Pancake Breakfast, a coffee time featuring Cakery Café blueberry sweet treats, a pulled pork BBQ with blueberry cobbler, an ice cream social with warm blueberry sauce, music, vendors, kids’ activities, a basket raffle, a 50/50 raffle, and celebration of Farmers’ Market week at Plowe Park. Come join us!

It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown! - October

Although not sponsored by Dolgeville Forward this year, Bob Baker and his helpers created a wonderful Halloween display featuring all sorts of pumpkins, large and small, painted and carved, as well as a plethora of fall and Halloween decorations. As an alternative to Trick-or-Treating for Halloween during COVID-19, children enjoyed receiving candy through tubes … it was just plain fun! Bob has grand ideas for expanding this into a Village-wide fall festival, and Dolgeville Forward members will be there to support, assist, and promote!

Christmas on Main - December

Christmas on Main is a time for Village-wide celebrations that include all things Christmas - caroling; children’s activities, such as crafting, cookie and cupcake decorating, and a business scavenger hunt; music; free hot chocolate and mulled cider; open houses; a parade … with Santa, of course; and more! The day ends with officially lighting the Christmas tree in Plowe Park. Next year, we plan to launch a Christmas decorating contest for businesses. Look for more information as Christmas, 2021 approaches!

February

In planning, hopefully something revolving around Valentine’s Day!

April

In planning, hopefully some sort of Spring Fest!
