Annual Earth Day Village Clean-Up

Earth Day.jpg

The Annual Earth Day Village Clean-Up takes place near Earth Day in April. Volunteers of all ages meet at the playground and make a plan to clean all Village-owned parks, fields, and properties. Volunteers select areas to work, and bringing all of their own yard tools and other supplies work to clean that area. They shovel and rake the areas, weed, and cut back vegetation.

The 2021 Earth Day Village Clean Up is scheduled for Sunday, April 25th beginning at noon at the Village playground. If you are willing and able, we’d love to have you join us! Look for more information on our Facebook page.

Neighbors Helping Neighbors is a free program for elderly, disabled, or ill Village residents who may be unable to complete their own spring or fall yardwork. Residents who need assistance simply contact Dolgeville Forward about their needs and Dolgeville Forward volunteers will schedule a clean-up date and time. Volunteers bring their own materials and rake, shovel, and cut back vegetation and brush and remove it, free of charge! Look for information in Spring 2021 about our spring Neighbors Helping Neighbors program!

Adopt-a-Park and Adopt-a-Sign

Flowers welcome residents and visitors alike to our Village and make our Village spaces beautiful. Dolgeville Forward volunteers “adopt” one of the many park spaces throughout the Village and one of the four sign and planters coming into the Village (South Main Street, North Helmer Ave., State Street/Military Road, and Route 29 from the Hilltop). These volunteers plant flowers and commit to caring for them throughout the late spring, summer, and early fall. All costs for this program (plants, planters, etc.) are covered by Dolgeville Forward or the individual volunteers.

Hanging Plant Maintenance

One of the most beautiful sights in our Village are the huge, colorful hanging baskets and potted planters adorning Main Street’s business district and parks. These baskets and planters require daily watering and feeding, which can be very time consuming and expensive. For the 2021 season, Dolgeville Forward, with the assistance of generous donors and volunteers, purchased the plants, plant food, and gas for the mower, and completed the daily watering on a rotating basis.

Watering all of the plants takes approximately 90 minutes per day. Anyone who volunteers to assist in watering must be a minimum of 18 years old, have the ability to drive a riding lawn mower with a trailer, and be able to hold a watering wand in the air for extended periods of time.
