Dolgeville Farmers’ Market

Access to affordable, fresh, and nutritious food is an important aspect of the health of any thriving community. Therefore, Dolgeville Forward, Inc. is proud to act as the official sponsor of the Dolgeville Farmers’ Market. This means that our organization is responsible for all aspects of the Market as governed by the New York State Department of Ag and Markets with support from Herkimer County Cornell Cooperative Extension.

In 2020, the decision was made to move the Market from the current pavilion (which was scheduled to be razed during the summer of 2020, but was not due to COVID-19) to Plowe Park at the corner of Main Street and Cramer Lane, for a safer, more open-air market.

The move was unexpectedly successful, making the Market much more visible, more accessible to families and our Village’s senior citizens, and attracting many more vendors and shoppers than in past years. Because of this, we are making plans to continue to hold the Market at the Plowe Park site and hope to construct a small, permanent shed to hold Market materials.

The 2020 Dolgeville Farmers’ Market was held every Saturday from the first Saturday in June to the second Saturday in October from 9 AM to 1 PM. We plan to adhere to this same schedule for the 2021 Market.

Depending on what was in season and available, the 2020 Market featured, among other items:

  • A wide variety of locally grown and harvested vegetables and fruits

  • Fresh baked goods - breads, pies, cookies, fudge, shortbread, and more

  • Jams, jellies, compotes, pickles, relishes, sauerkraut, and other canned or preserved goods

  • Fresh eggs, poultry, beef and locally made cheese

  • Flowers and holiday decorations - cut flower arrangements, annuals, perennials, pumpkins, gourds, corn shocks, wreaths

  • Arts and crafts - handmade jewelry, crocheted items, found art, hair accessories, facemasks, cutting boards, wooden spoons, and more

In addition, several area musicians volunteered their time to provide live acoustic music, adding an aura of a real country fair!

Look for the 2021 Market to open on Saturday, June 5th.

Farmer’s Market Storage Facility

Thanks to Excellus Blue Cross/Blue Shield, an 8’ x 10’ wooden storage facility has been purchased and installed at Plowe Park so that vendors have a permanent storage facility for Market materials. Dolgeville Forward and Farmers’ Market vendors wish to thank Excellus BlueCross BlueShield for their generous sponsorship!
